The Shadow Mountain Story
In 1957, a handful of Christians met in the garage of Evelyn Lemene, and by God’s grace, the Valley Baptist Church was started. These believers believed God for great things and would be faithful to Him and His Word as they endeavored to reach a little farm community called Morgan Hill.
Over the next forty-nine years, this church would see many transitions including some fourteen pastors and two name changes. The blessing is that through it all, the church remained true to the Scripture and true to the commission to win the lost.
In 1998, the church was restructured under new leadership as the Shadow Mountain Baptist Church, and God began to bless the soulwinning and preaching efforts in a special way. In the last eight years, the church has grown from 12 members to an average of more than 341 in attendance every Sunday morning.
In September of 2004, Kyle Haynes was called by the church family to be the senior pastor. God continues to bless our ministry. People are trusting Christ through the various ministries of our church as we endeavor to give the Gospel to every home in the South Valley.
In December of 2007, SMBC purchased property at 17810 Monterey Road in following God’s vision for the future. In August of 2008, Shadow Mountain Baptist School started the school year at the downtown location. By God’s grace, as of October of 2009, all ministry operations were moved as well to the new location. We look forward to the blessings of God as we continue to strive together for the work of the ministry.
This is the Lord’s doing; it is marvelous in our eyes. Ps. 118:23
